In the past, floods on the Maitland River typically occurred in spring as a result of rain and of snow melting. Today, changes in precipitation patterns mean the potential for flooding at any time of year is increasing. As a result, flood forecasting systems and communications strategies must be much more nimble in order to warn communities about imminent potential floods.
