This weekend we have a very special Short Leash Saturday lined up for you lovely folks. This month, we are partnering with Ignite Phoenix to promote and support local music by showcasing local artists What Laura Says, Steff Koeppen & The Articles and Sareena Dominguez.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Ignite Phoenix, it is a semi-annual event that fosters and inspires Phoenix's creative community. In one evening at Ignite Phoenix, guests hear 18 passionate speakers from our creative, technical, and business communities talking about their current projects or favorite ideas for just five minutes. Ignite presentations educate and inspire you, and maybe make you laugh in the process. These events bring together some of Phoenix's great thinkers, makers and doers and is always met with an enthusiastic and inspired audience. (The next event is in October and we urge up to get more info at www.ignitephoenix.com!)

At this special Short Leash Saturday our featured performers have all previously contributed to the Ignite Phoenix Mix Tapes. This locals-only compilation album project that has exposed 60 different Arizona artists to thousands of event attendees through free CD distribution at the past five Ignite Phoenix events. Ignite Phoenix is all about promoting creativity in our lovely city and a huge part of that is supporting local music. We are thrilled to partner with them in this mission.

Steff Koeppen will be opening the evening, followed by Sareena Dominguez and then local favorites, What Laura Says, closing out the evening with an acoustic set. Ignite Phoenix team members will also be on hand, providing information about the Ignite Phoenix events and showing several of their past presentations on our projector screen.

One thing you won't want to miss is this last opportunity to pick up FREE copies of all five of their locals-only compilation albums! Make sure to see an Ignite volunteer to collect your free music.

Oh, and of course, Short Leash Hot Dogs will be on hand serving up the most delicious hot dogs you've ever had. This is guaranteed to be quite the evening!

Presenter: Michael Broyles

Biography: I am a writer, researcher, world traveler, vinyl record collector, and musician. I am most interested in writing about early twentieth century African American religious and musical traditions and am pursuing a graduate degree to achieve that end.

Description: I want to relay my experience of discovering that blues recordings from 1920-1950 contain deep, passionate oral poetry that provides insight into our cultural past and explorations into human nature. My goal is to inspire others to encounter blues music as complex insights into US culture and history.
