The Art and Science of Songwriting
- Marian Call
A professional songwriter breaks down the inspiration — and the simple mathematics and problem solving — involved in writing a song, one of the simplest and one of the most elusive forms in music.
Marian Call released her debut album, Vanilla in 2007, a home-baked lo-fi collection of unorthodox alt-folk songs. She sings with a hint of classical training and a deep undercurrent of soul. Her songs are eclectic and diverse, clever and light on their feet, but powerfully honest and grounded in the human experience. Her compositions are half study and calculation, half improvisational instinct. Got to Fly followed, appealing to lovers of Firefly and Battlestar Galactica, and so called a geek tribute album. Marian's blog lets her fans keep up with her creative world. She is currently in Anchorage working on her third full-length album, Something Fierce. On Twitter she is @mariancall.
