In her Ignite talk from UXPA2012, Sandy Sterling shares the story of her successful creation of a UX department at Cummins.
I currently manage the User Experience Group at Cummins Inc., a global power leader that designs, manufactures, distributes and services engines and related technologies. I've enjoyed designing and developing interactive experiences for more than 10 years. I introduced user-centered design to Cummins in 2009 and have since built a team of user experience professionals responsible for the company’s user centered design processes, best practices, standards, training and metrics.
Prior to Cummins, I was a UX consultant working with companies such as Johnson & Johnson and Roche to deliver rich interactive experiences. While living in New Zealand, I delivered the information architecture for a large redesign project for the New Zealand Ministry of Education. My diverse background in both technology and design has allowed me to know what it takes to meet business and technology requirements without compromising the needs of the user.
