The Open Source Way: Creating and nurturing communities of contributors
- Karsten Wade
Red Hat Sr. Community Architect, Karsten Wade, introduces a new upstream community-written handbook, "The Open Source Way: Creating and nurturing communities of contributors". The handbook is for community members and leaders to share practices within their domains that help them grow happy and successful contributors and projects. Red Hat's community team has 20 years of experience enabling communities of contributors to turn ideas in to innovations. The methods that make these type of communities successful are gathered in the new handbook.
In this video, Karsten Wade introduces the team's work in compiling, writing, and now releasing the handbook as an upstream collaboration project. It's a community book, for community members and leaders, written by the community itself.

Community relations manager for Red Hat's growing network of corporate developers who use Red Hat and JBoss tools. Role includes running new developer portal (http://developer.redhatmagazine.com).
His current pet project is The Open Source Way. A guide for helping people to understand how to and how not to engage with community over projects such as software, content, marketing, art, infrastructure, standards, and so forth. It contains knowledge distilled from years of Red Hat experience, which itself comes from the many years of experience of individual upstream contributors who have worked for Red Hat. Of course, this guide is itself an open source community project. You can learn more and/or get involved here:
