- William Birkemeier
William (Bill) Birkemeier is program manager of the Coastal and Ocean Data Systems and Field Data Collection programs of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. These programs fund a wide range of coastal data-related activities like the Field Research Facility (FRF) in Duck, NC and a national program of wave hindcasts and observations. He is the Corps representative to the Interagency Ocean Observations Committee (IOOC) which oversees national ocean observing activities and is one of the co-authors of the 2009 National Operational Wave Observation Plan.
He received a bachelor's degree in physics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a master's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Delaware. He joined the Corps of Engineers in 1975 and began conducting research on the impacts of storms on beaches.
