What's so smart about cities?
1 Billion people are living in cities today and according to experts the number will double by 2025. How will cities of tomorrow look from the perspective of today and more importantly how will information technology help cities to be more hospitable?
There are different approaches to that question: Scaling up cities of today - which is something that IBM (http://www.ibm.com/smarterplanet/us/en/sustainable_cities/ideas/) is perusing - and building completely new cities like New Sondgo City (http://smartcities.posterous.com/new-songdo-city) - which is a project that Cisco is investing a lot into.
I would want to give a brief overview about the current state of affairs about Smart Cities and how cities of today are tackling some of the issues. There are initiatives like Vancouver's "A City that thinks like the Web" (http://www.slideshare.net/david_a_eaves/creating-a-city-that-thinks-like...) and projects like New Sondgo City.
